NFL Recap: Denver Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a defensive struggle this weekend, the Broncos clinched a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Defensive Performance Seals Game
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after giving up a safety in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce just 82 total net yards during the contest.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with approximately five minutes left.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal performance, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a potential victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach stated following the contest.
